GPS Tracking System Overview…
Nowadays, a GPS enabled Vehicle Tracking Device is installed on each vehicle. It collects and helps in transmitting tracking data via a cellular or satellite network, whichever works best for that particular operation. The recorded location data can be stored within the tracking unit, or it may be transmitted to a central location database, or Internet-connected computer, using a cellular (GPRS or SMS), radio, or satellite modem embedded in the unit. This allows the asset’s location to be displayed against a map backdrop either in real-time or when analyzing the track later, using GPS tracking software. It fits inside the vehicle dashboard and captures the GPS location information to a central server from satellite and other vehicle information from different sensors, at regular intervals. At every interval, it gets updated depending on the status of the vehicle.
Information that we get regarding the vehicle received from GPS Vehicle Tracker:
- Vehicle Location
- Speed
- Altitude
- Status (Stop/Moving etc.)
- Fuel in tank (in %)
- A/C on/off status
- Odometer reading
- Temperature inside the vehicle
How GPS tracking system works?
The GPS satellites transmit signals to a GPS receiver. These receivers passively receive satellite signals, so they can only be used effectively outdoors. Each GPS satellite transmits data that indicates its location and the current time and accordingly all the information are being saved to a central server. All GPS satellites synchronize operations so that these repeating signals are transmitted at the same instant. The signals, moving at the speed of light, arrive at a GPS receiver at slightly different times. The distance to the GPS satellites can be determined by estimating the amount of time it takes for their signals to reach the receiver. When the receiver estimates the distance to at least four GPS satellites, it can calculate its position in three dimensions. The GPS tracking system can track a vehicle anywhere on earth. As the technology is advancing, more and more people are willing to install these vehicles tracking devices as they not only help to track their vehicles but also help to keep it safe and secure. It is extensively used by fleet owners and managers to manage and maintain their fleet of vehicles without any hassle.
